The core of the game is that you select an activity for your character, and complete actions by walking in real life. Each activity takes a certain number of steps to complete an action. The number of steps needed can be brought down via gear and items.

<li>You can see information about your current location by swiping left. From world map, you can find information about other locations that you've previously visited by tapping locations and swiping right.</li>

<li>Gathering activities are unlimited - they repeat infinitely. Crafting and traveling activities are limited, meaning that when you arrive at your destination or run out of crafting materials, the activity ends.</li>

<li>If you walk while your character has no activity selected, your steps will go towards <hl>Saved Steps</hl>. Saved steps are consumed on future activities, so you practically can never waste steps in WalkScape.</li>

<li>If you change your activity, the current activity ends. Any steps that were already contributed towards the current action will be refunded to your <hl>Saved Steps</hl></li>
El núcleo del juego es seleccionar una actividad para tu personaje y completar acciones caminando en el mundo real. Cada actividad tarda un cierto número de pasos en completar una acción. El número de pasos necesario puede reducirse mediante equipo y objetos.

Some locations - especially cities and towns - also have services. You need services in order to craft certain items. Here are the most commonly needed services during early game:

<li><hl>Forges</hl>. Forges are necessary when you want to do smithing, like smelting bars or creating armor. You can find the nearest forge in Kallaheim.</li>

<li><hl>Sawmills</hl>. Sawmills are necessary when you want to do carpentry, like creating planks out of logs. You can find the nearest sawmill in Kallaheim.</li>

<li><hl>Kitchens</hl>. Kitchens are necessary when you want to do cooking, like creating consumables that give temporary buffs. You can find the nearest kitchen in Kallaheim.</li>

<li><hl>Workshops</hl>. Workshops are necessary when you want to do crafting, like creating tools such as pickaxes and fishing rods. You can find the nearest workshop in Frusenholm, east of Kallaheim. Basic tools have no service requirements.</li>
Sommige locaties - vooral steden en dorpen - hebben ook voorzieningen. Je hebt voorzieningen nodig om bepaalde voorwerpen te kunnen maken. Hier volgen de meest benodigde voorzieningen tijdens de beginfase van het spel:

<li><hl>Keukens</hl>. Keukens zijn nodig als je wilt gaan koken, zoals het maken van verbruiksartikelen die tijdelijke bonussen geven. De dichtstbijzijnde keuken kun je vinden in Kallaheim. </li>

<li><hl>Werkplaatsen</hl>. Werkplaatsen zijn nodig als je voorwerpen wil gaan maken met je AmbachtHandenarbeid vaardigheid, bijvoorbeeld voor het maken van gereedschap zoals pikhouwelen en vishengels. De dichtstbijzijnde werkplaats kun je vinden in Frusenholm, ten oosten van Kallaheim. Voor het maken van basisgereedschap zijn geen voorzieningsvereisten.</li>
